Nigeria gears up to become largest fertilizer exporter by 2017

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said plans are underway to reposition the Country to become the regional hub of gas and largest fertilizer exporter in Africa by 2017. The Group Executive Director, Gas and Power of the (NNPC) Dr. David Ige stated this during an interview in Abuja.
Dr. Ige said the NNPC‘s strategy for Gas is for domestic supply, Gas-to-power and Gas-to- Industry
to stimulate the growth of Gross Domestic Products (GDP) in the country.
The NNPC GED said the Corporation is working round the clock to ensure sufficient supply of Gas to power to impact on the lives of Nigerians stressing that so many aggressive reforms have taken place in the sector in the last three years.
Dr. Ige said the NNPC in collaboration with the private sector are working round the clock to boost fertilizer and Petrochemical Industries in the Gas Industrial park in Delta State of Nigeria.
He said natural compressed gas is now been used by vehicles in Edo state and efforts are been made to step up LNG consumption in the Country. On Pipeline Vandalism, Dr. Ige noted that various technological options are being considered and commended the Joint Task Force for their relentless effort to stem the tide of pipeline vandalism in the country.
